I had trouble sleeping last night. I awoke at about 5:30 am and spent some time fiddling around on the computer and drinking coffee. Around 7:00 am I suddenly became aware of a deep red glow coming from behind the high ground on the other side of the lake. It was still quite dark, but luckily I still had a camera with a remote release on a tripod from when I took the picture of the Christmas tree the other day. I say luckily because the light was changing quickly and the red had already changed to this bright orange/yellow. Rushing outside into the freezing cold (it was about 10F/-12C) I managed to get off a few shots. Shortly after the light had gone.

The yellow stream on the lake was really there. It’s a reflection of the sky on the ice where the snow on the lake had either melted or been blown away.
