Another stop on the itinerary for our visiting friends was Sunnyside, the home of Washington Irving – probably the first American author of international renown. We’d had lunch at Harvest on Hudson in Hastings on Hudson and a friend dropped us off. We were very lucky that the wisteria that grows all over the front facade of house was in full bloom. We also did the house tour, given by an extremely knowledgeable guide in period costume (unfortunately no interior photography allowed). After we’d finished we continued along the Old Croton Aqueduct trail, this time going north past Lindhurst (unfortunately too late for the tour) into Tarrytown where we sat and had a drink at Mint on Main Street.

Closer view of the wisteria.
