Some more of the ubiquitous wrought iron fencing. Here it looks as if the tree is trying to eat it.

Photographs and thoughts on photography and camera collecting
This brick building alongside the racetrack is apparently a reservoir, presumably to provide water for the horses. According to Scenes from the Trail it “…was connected to the De Graaf/Powers House located downhill to the east”.

This was once a two-story Judges’ Stand. From their high position I imagine the judges would have had a good view of the horses racing, exercising etc.
Scenes from the Trail has a couple of interesting old pictures showing how the judges stand used to look. Well worth a look.

The is the former Race Track, once used give the prize estate’s horses a good workout. The track borders were defined by these iron railings. The owners seem to have been fond of such railings as you find them all over the property.
Scenes from the Trail has some wonderful pictures of how the Race Track used to look. I was struck by the almost complete absence of trees in the old photographs. I guess they must have all grown since then.
