Chuang Yen Monastery again – Monk

I was taking some pictures when I noticed this monk approaching. At first I thought he was coming to chastise me for having the dog (I wasn’t sure whether or not dogs were allowed). Instead, it seems that he came up to pet the dog.

This is one of my relatively few pictures of people. I’m not comfortable taking candid pictures, nor do I like to approach strangers to ask for their permission. However, in this case I asked him if I could take his picture. He agreed and took me over to this location next to the Buddha statue.

After I’d taken my shot he asked me to take a picture of him in the same location – with his iphone.

Taken with a Sony RX-100 Me.

Chuang Yen Monastery again – Overview

I’ve been to Chuang Yen Monastery a number of times. See:

I find it a very tranquil spot for a short walk. We’ve had a stretch of bad weather: almost continuous rain. There was a bit of a break in the weather and I was tired of walking the dog around the lake so I decided to go to somewhere close by. Chuang Yen seemed to fit the bill.

As always I took a camera, but I didn’t really expect to take pictures. I thought I’d already taken pictures of anything “photo worthy”. It turns out that I was wrong.
