In addition to the Friends Meeting House we also visited the nearby Fair Ridge Cemetery. It wasn’t the most interesting cemetery I’ve ever been, but it did have some statuary that caught my attention, including this lovely statue of a woman playing a lyre. To my mind this was the most eye catching piece of sculpture in the entire cemetery.

Most of the gravestones were rather plain. This one, however, was somewhat more ornate. It was also rather sad. The inscription is hard to make out but at the top it reads “In memory of our dear children” and then goes on to list four children (John, Samuel, Kate and one whose name I can’t make out) all of whom died at an early age.

Adjacent to the Friends Meeting House is a nice old cemetery. We came across this broken gravestone, which seemed to be in the process of being fixed.
From the amount of rust on the clamps it looked as if they had been there for some time.

I’m back at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery again – for reasons, which will become evident in a later post. I needed to get a detailed map of the cemetery so my wife dropped me near one of the entrances.
I liked this stone arch with it’s black wrought iron gate. The building in the background contains the administrative offices and it was here that I got my map.
