Returning home from a walk one day I came across these ferns. The vegetation along the side of the trail was mostly in shadow except for a few spots where the fading sunlight filtered through the trees. These ferns were in one of these patches. I liked the contrast between the light and the dark; and the difference between the bright orange/yellow of the ferns (whose leaves had already changed to their autumn colors) and the dark greens of the leaves.
Water droplets on a spider web
I was walking along the road when I spotted this spider web on a road sign. Looking more closely I could see the water droplets and I liked the geometric pattern created. I took a picture and was going to take some more when I car came by on the road. The draft from the car blew away all of the water droplets and made any further efforts futile.
By the roadside 16: Centaurea cyanus
Also known as Bachelor’s Button, Bluebottle, Cornflower, Garden Cornflower (at least that’s what I think it is). The bug was an unanticipated plus that flew in just as I was taking the picture. It’s a pretty flower, but it apparently has a less than pretty past because of its association with the far right party in Austria and before that with the Nazis. By the roadside 15: Red berries
Hanging Vine
I was fascinated by this vine hanging down from a tree by the road. Something about the symmetry of it appealed to me: one leaf to the left; one leaf to the right; another leaf to the left etc. Also the fact that it was so balanced, with each of the leaf clusters having five leaves. I also liked the curves of the leaves and the way the green of the leaves contrasts with the their red stems.
