This was the one we didn’t know about. It was something of a surprise as we had understood that Law only ever gave one lantern to each of his friends. Maybe since William Sloane was such a good friend, and his boss for many years, he got two. Or maybe Slone specifically asked for two. I guess we’ll never know.

One interesting feature at Merestead is the pet cemetery to the southeast of the Mansion. Situated on the edge of the garden It has the family pets (mostly dogs) marked with small gravestones. Some interesting dog names can be found — makes your mind wander back to the glory days of this mansion when it was full of farm and human life!
