I liked the curved columns (don’t know what the correct word is) and the way that they are layered to give the impression of two rows, one behind the other. The delicate but intricate carving also appealed to me. Taken in the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, NY.
Private Parts – Doorway to a store in Cold Spring, NY
We (my wife, our late dog Jackson, and myself) had been to lunch at Cathryn’s Tuscan Grill in Cold Spring. We were sitting outside (the only place they allowed dogs) when I noticed the entrance to this store right next door. I’m not sure what it’s called, but you can see from the picture that there’s a sign on the steps, which reads: “Private Parts” so I’m assuming that’s the name. The bright red door caught my eye, but I also liked the wide variety of objects scattered around the stairway: small statues, a painting or two, wickerwork, wind chimes, rusted metal sculptures etc. – all surrounded by an assortment of plants.
Old Stove
I came across this rusted old stove sitting outside an apparently abandoned waterworks on Pocantico Lake. I’ve posted about this location before in Old Waterworks at Pocantico Lake.

Back in June of last year I posted about photo.net’s weekly discussions – each week focusing on a single image. I enjoyed this series but after a while it seemed to “peter out”. Now it seems it’s back as version 2.0 with the first discussion on the Bill Brandt image above. Let’s hope that it continues.

After the Storm
We had a rainy day yesterday: steady rain in the morning followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon. After the last downpour had stopped I took the dog into the garden to “do his business”. I looked down at the lake and noticed this rainbow. Of course I had to dash back into the house to get a picture of it before the light changed or the rainbow disappeared completely. I figure that the rainbow came down just about where one of our fellow garden club members lives so I’m getting out the shovel and going for the pot of gold.
