Reflections in a torn curtain – two versions

The window is in a sugar house in a nearby park. I was attracted by the textures and contrasts e.g. white curtain/black interior as well as the way the trees are reflected in the glass and are seen through the tear in the curtain.

One version is somewhat broader than the other. I like them both, but I’m not sure which one I prefer. The first version provides more context so that you can see what you are looking at. The second is more abstract in nature. By removing the window frame it’s not so readily apparent that this is a window. You have to think a bit more about what you’re seeing.

Swirls

I was walking along carrying the camera when I inadvertently pressed the shutter release. Didn’t even know I’d taken a picture. Then when reviewing the pictures I’d take I came across this “swirly”, colorful picture, which I quite liked. I enhanced the colors a bit to make them stand out a bit more. Not me usually sort of picture, but possibly a happy accident.

Shadows on the Kitchen Floor

We were going out and I was waiting for my wife to finish getting ready. As I stood in the kitchen I noticed the late (around 4:00 pm) afternoon light streaming through the french doors in the kitchen and casting the shadows of the lattice and of a plant onto the wood floor. It seemed to me that this would make a nice black and white image. I also liked the way the the texture of the wood grain on the floor contrasted with the essentially ‘textureless’ shadows.

Converging Lines

I was sitting in Moonbean Cafe, one of my favorite local eateries when I noticed these lines converging towards the center of the round table where I was sitting. I also like the warmth of the wood grain inlay. It was pretty dark inside and I wanted a decent amount of depth of field so I had to use a slow shutter speed. Luckily the low angle that I wanted allowed me to lean the camera on the table surface while tilting it downwards.
