Around the Neighborhood – A Walk to Briarcliff Village – Lunch at the Patio

One of my favorite eateries: The Patio. I like to go there with a book and just sit there reading and watching the world go by while I eat my lunch. They serve diner-like food, but with a Mexican twist. For example you can have bacon and eggs for breakfast, or you can have huevos rancheros or huevos mexicanos. When the COVID pandemic hit they almost immediately built an entire, new patio area on the side of the building so that people could eat outside. It’s quite a popular place. I recently went there for lunch not realizing that it was Mother’s Day. The place was packed out with a long line of people waiting to be seated.

In the picture above you can see two windows. The building that houses The Patio was once the original Briarcliff Manor Fire Station and the two windows made up the entrance where the fire trucks went in and out.

My lunch: A greek salad. I can’t get enough anchovies.

I was not left alone with my meal. This guy hung around for a while.

Around the Neighborhood – A Walk to Briarcliff Village. Briarcliff Farms Housing

I have often walked past these houses and wondered why they they all look essentially the same (something which is not common in Briarcliff Manor). After a bit of research I discovered that they are two of six houses along Dalmeny Road originally built for workers of Briarcliff Farms. Another three houses stand on Old Briarcliff Road. Similar houses were also built on South State, Pleasantville and Poplar roads.

Around the Neighborhood – The bridge across the road

This stone bridge is almost directly across the road from my house in Briarcliff Manor. It takes a small road from what was once the gatehouse/porte chochere (long since remodeled and now a private residence) to a large mansion: Chilmark, the former home of V. Everit Macy (it still exists in private hands).

There’s something about it that fascinates me and keep going back in different lights, using different cameras, different lenses do see what kind of pictures I can get.

On the day I took this the late afternoon light was rather nice.
