A busy July 4

Our dog, Harley spent all of July 4 barking. We were sitting on the patio and suddenly he would see some action on the lake (e.g. a boat, paddleboard, catamaran, kayak etc. passing) and he would rush downhill to the dock barking all the way. He would then run up and down the dock a few times and then run back up to the patio. Until the next boat passed (it seemed like 15 seconds later) and then he would repeat the process. He must have been exhausted by the end of the day – I know I was and I’m sure our neighbors were.

I guess it was all too much for him.

A Woman and Her Dog

Our friend and her dog. He’s a French Bulldog and every year she has an outdoor birthday party for him – last year with a band. Our previous dog, Jackson didn’t get on with him at all. Jackson was smaller, but extremely aggressive with other dogs (he was part Jack Russell terrier). After being barked at and generally harassed for a while Jackson turned the tables and chased him up onto the back of a sofa. Our present dog, Harley, being more sweet tempered, gets on better.

Harley by the lake

I was sitting on our dock with our dog Harley when suddenly he jumped up and ran off. I spotted him on the grass behind a flower bed trying to get through the trees along the side of our property. There’s also a fence so I didn’t think he’d succeed. I was wrong though. He managed to find a small gap between the fence and a large rock overlooking the lake. And there he sat, on top of the rock, for a long time – watching the action on the lake.

Turkeys in the Meadow

I’d been hearing the distinctive “gobble, gobble” sound for a few days, but hadn’t seen the authors. Then the dog started barking like crazy and I thought he’d seen some deer. When I took a look I didn’t see any deer, but I did see this trio of wild turkeys in the meadow adjoining our property. I was a very long way away and the turkeys were barely visible on the LCD screen of my Sony RX100 so I just pointed the camera in the general direction and hoped. This is a very extreme crop and so the sharpness and detail leave a lot to be desired. I does have a sort of “painterly” almost impressionistic look to it that I rather like.

Mayfly on the Water

This mayfly (at least I think that’s what it is) had somehow managed to end up in the water. I was optimistic about it’s chances of getting out though. Lots of sticks and other objects were sticking out of the water. I felt it was only a matter of time before it managed to move itself closer to one of them so it could climb out, dry itself off and fly away. Didn’t stay around long enough to find out if that was the case though.
