In the morning our dog will jump on the bed and try to lick my face. If successful he’ll lick for a while and then pull back at bit – as if to examine his work and to decide whether or not he’d got everything. Then if necessary he’ll go back and lick some more. This is what he’s doing here.

He was lying on my chest so I couldn’t move to get any camera other than that on my iphone. I couldn’t really see what I was doing so I took lots of pictures, moving the iphone around as I did.

While technically this isn’t a great picture (soft, blurry, noisy etc.) I like it, partly because of the different angle. I don’t usually see him from this perspective.

Taken with an iphone 5s.

New Year’s Eve Party 2018-019 – Group shot on the stroke of midnight

This shot had a number of elements, which give me nightmares:

  • Low Light
  • People Moving
  • On Camera Flash

I’m not much good at any of the above and when I first saw this picture on the computer I didn’t much like it. However, on further consideration It’s grown on me. Some of its failings (e.g. the motion blur) work in its favour.

It seems to me that there’s something surreal about it. On the left we have some moving figures – blurred. In the center we have hostess – full of energy and tolerably in focus. On the right we have the elderly lady and the man in the red sweater beside her – both of them frozen and showing little emotion.

Taken with a Sony RX-100 M3.
