Spring is here and I have to engage in one of my least favorite activities: gardening. My wife is really the gardener of the family and I will admit that I like it when the garden’s all a-bloom. It’s the process of getting to that point that I’m not keen on. My usual role is lifting large objects (e.g. bringing out the 20+ heavy plant pots with roses in them that every year we put into the basement) and digging holes. Today was a digging hole day. We have a lot of bushes with white, bell shaped bunches of flowers (I don’t know what they’re called) along the side of the house. Bees seem to be very fond of them and there were a large number these insects buzzing around. I noticed that they would stay on a clump of flowers for quite a while. This was good because I’m not great at photographing things that move a lot.
Broken Tree
Seed Pod???
I was walking the dog to pass the time while waiting for my wife to finish her dance class when we came across a row of trees. Around the base of each of the trees were a large number of these objects – I assume they are some kind of seed pod. Many had already fallen, but this one was still on the tree. Our dog had been merrily walking along when suddenly and unexpectedly he stopped and sat down. I encouraged him to get going, which he did but then after a few steps he sat down again. We repeated this a few times until I noticed that he had one of these things stuck to his backside – must have been rather uncomfortable. After I’d removed it we continued along as usual.
The inevitable first flower of Spring in our garden
Flowers for my wife’s Birthday
March 31 was my wife’s birthday and she received these flowers: the roses in the first picture from me; and the flowers in the second two pictures from our friends Ken and Doreen Cross.
Daisies and red and yellow roses.
