I’m not sure what these purple flowers are, but the overall effect reminds me a little of fields of lavender I’ve seen in Provence. I like the multiple layers: the brightly colored flowers in the foreground, the more muted colors of the grasses, the darker shades of the land on the other side of Croton Bay; and finally the lighter colors of the sky. You can just see St. Augustine’s Catholic Church on the other side of the bay. It was the subject of one of my earlier posts (See: St. Augustine’s Church, Ossining, NY)
Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f3.5 T Tessar
This came attached to an Exa (See:New Acquisitions – Exakta Varex/VX IIa and Exa August 10, 2015) that I acquired in 2015, but had never used. I decided to give it a try right after I had tried out the Ludwig Peronar I mentioned in an earlier post (See: Ernst Ludwig 50mm f2.9 Peronar). The two lenses are very similar, both in appearance and in size. But in most other respects they are light years apart. Where the peronar was extremely soft and difficult to focus, the Tessar is remarkably sharp.
It’s a solid, metal lens with four elements in three groups. Quite small (of course the adapter for the NEX makes it much larger. I’d guess about twice as large), it focuses down to about two and a quarter feet. It’s comfortable in the hand and smooth to focus. Apertures range from f3.5 to f22 without defined stop intervals. I also found the out of focus areas to be appealing and was impressed by the color rendition.
I really liked this lens. It’s still on my NEX.

Locust Grove – Blue Flowers
May favorite color is blue and as a child growing up in the United Kingdom I have fond memories of extensive carpets of bluebells growing in the woods. They were truly beautiful. These blue flowers were growing everywhere when we went to Locust Grove. They’re not bluebells (or at least not those I remember from the UK), but they are about the same color and the effect of masses of them is similar (but not quite as spectacular – possibly because British bluebells are taller and he flowers hang down).

Orange roses
One final shot with the Ernst Ludwig 50mm f2.9 Peronar. This picture is fairly sharp, but it conveys an impression of softness. The best pictures I took with this lens all had this characteristic: an ability to somehow be sharp and soft at the same time.

Rushes
Taken in Law Park, Briarcliff Manor, NY while walking the dog. I liked the layers: the snow in the foreground, the first group of rushes (sharp), the icy snow covered pond, and then the second layer of rushes (blurred). Also the sets of diagonal lines that lead the eye through the picture.
